| It is proposed
in the bill to repeal the Central excise Act, 1944 which
will be replaced by Federal Excise Act, 2005. Highlights
of the proposed new Act are summarized below:
Layout of the Act
The Act has been divided into seven
chapters and has three schedules dealing with excisable
and exempted goods and services. There are total forty
eight sections to the new Act.
Objective
To simplify and modernize
the tax statues, the government is replacing the existing
Central Excise Act 1944 with the new Federal Excise
Act, 2005.
